Ya, no pressure. I still have to have it registered too. I have two weekends left and anytime I can get in before work. :?

I was able to get the exterior lights on and the door frame trim started this morning.

Wish me luck.

Before work I was able to get a little bit more done. Here is a shot of the porch light and some of the door trim.

Well after work today I was able to spend a bit of time on the teardrop. I finished putting the AL on one door and getting it mounted. I'm glad that it fits... Whether it's water tight or not still remains to be seen. I'll get started on the other door tomorrow, hopefully a bit faster than the first. Monday is a day off for me so I hope to finish the rest of the body trim then.

Okanagan build - my first Teardrop

Postby Koko65 » Sun Jun 17, 2012 3:40 pm

Thanks for the support!

I am using Steve's build manual which has been a great help. However the door construction methods does not cover an aluminum skin as I decided to use. I'm just winging it as far as the door hinges and trim go as I have not this kind of thing before. Tomorrow I hope to finish up most of the trim work, then I can get the wheels and lights back and get this puppy registered!

Have a great Sunday!

Okanagan build - my first Teardrop

Postby Koko65 » Sun Jun 17, 2012 3:46 pm

I picked up some solar panels at Costco the other day.

It's a 55 watt 3 panel system that has a snap together rack and enough quick connect wiring to have the panels 24ft from the tear. I am not planning to mount them on the roof, but set them up when we are at a campsite for a while. I'll take a picture of the setup when I have a chance (and some sunshine). I did test them out in the rain and it still charged the battery, albeit slowly.

Hi Onno
Your Tear project looks great.
This was the first chance I have to really go thru all of the pictures, as for some reason I very seldom check out the build Journal.
Will have to start making a habit of it.
Don't worry about registering your trailer.....I registered ours a couple of weeks ago. Took less then 10 minutes and you really need nothing??
No Serial #, bill of sale, pictures, nothing as long as it weighs less than 2000 lbs????
I have finally updated my album, so you can see how my winter has gone.
July 1st?
Our departure date is July 15th and yes I am in serious panic mode.
My son was here and we finally got the picture thing sorted out so I have started a Build Journal...never too late.

PS
We really look forward to meeting you guys.

Okanagan build - my first Teardrop

Postby Koko65 » Sun Jun 17, 2012 7:35 pm

It's great to hear from you Vedette.

When you registered yours you just went to an auto plan broker with the unit? Judging from ICBCs Website you need to have the weigh scale info first and some other documents. I am focused on getting it road worthy so I can take it to the local agent. Everything else can wait, it won't matter if I don't have the struts in place for the trip, we can always use props the first time out. Etc.

I may need to extend the tongue on the trailer as I think the body goes over the present one too much, I'm afraid of jack knifing too easily. I might need your help with that.

Hope all is well

Hi Onno
As you can see from my pictures I was not ready for weighing or taking it to an agent.
I just walked in and said I needed to register my home built utility trailer.
Walked out 10 minutes later with registration, insurance, and licence plate.
Please give me a call if you need some help.

Nearing completion!

Postby Koko65 » Tue Jun 26, 2012 8:37 am

It's almost done!

I have been taking every spare moment to work on the teardrop so I have not had a chance to do any updates. We picked up a mattress yesterday and it fit perfectly, I had it cut to size at an outdoor store. All the trim work is done and I put the wheels and lights back on the frame. I go get the license plate today. The only thing I am waiting for is a new trim ring for the windows to fit our 1" walls.

I'll try to upload some pis tonight, if we get a break in the weather it would be nice outside.

Okanagan build - my first Teardrop

Postby Ocelli » Tue Jun 26, 2012 11:44 am

Which HF trailer did you use? I'm debating over the 1195 or 1720 lb. 4x8.
I'm planning a 5x10 Grumman 2
