First off....thanks Kirk for this nice 442! I picked it up at the Dam this spring. The steel parts had quite a bit of rust on them, and the lid had a piece of iron sitting on it for some time and galvanic action pitted it. However, it's a nice stove and I'll use it regularly. 442's were made for maybe 1 year, maybe 2 starting in 1963. It's an aluminum bodied stove. It's nice and light, but wants to get bent easily, and the raw aluminum will get stained from acidic foods. Probably why they only made them for such a short period of time, but that's just my opinion.
Lots of time with degreaser and a fingernail brush, some bead blasting, a new latch from Rockler and rattle can paint job and it's done! I still need the decal for the diamond shaped badge on the exterior of the lid. this stove is the mate to Scotts 443, the 3 burner model. Doug
