Trailer size

Postby specialkeay » Tue Aug 07, 2012 10:57 am

I'm prepping an old popup trailer frame that I got and it's 6 1/2' by 8' and the wheels are under neath the deck with a toddle length of of the wheels and axle is a little under 6'. All the pictures I see online have the wheels sticking out of there TD trailer. I wasn't sure if its going to make mine to unstable or top heavy and have some towing difficulty (speed wobble etc).

Having the wheels outboard helps in allowing a flat floor. With the wheels inbound, you'll have to block up some internal fenders. Unless you build ridiculously tall, there will be no stability problems. Take a look at small travel trailers, all wheels are inbound.

Chubby is 5'9" wide and 10' long and is built on a a standard 4x8 HF axle. If you start looking around in the gathering shots you will see many wheels under units.

Most towing instability is largely to blame on axle placement and short tongue length. You will be just fine just as long as you just don't turn corners.
