New to Teardrops

Postby Howego » Wed Aug 08, 2012 1:53 pm

I'm Jim and my wife is Cindy. We live in Washington state on the West side of the Cascade mountains. I don't need another hobby, but hobbies are my downfall. I love doing new things. The wife saw the Teardrop trailers and told me that that would be my next project. Guess I'll put off the four boats that I was going to do next. I'm sure that this question is answered in the forum, I've already seen alot written on the subject, but I was wondering what frame is the best to build on. I have seen the Harbor Freight, the Northern Tool and the Trailer Supply, in 4x8 and 5x8, and was wondering which is the best quality and easiest to modify to use as a base for the Teardrop. This is a wonderful site and I could spend hours on it, but right now I need to go clean my shop and tend to the fish in my pond. Thanks for the great site.

Another 30 minutes of looking and I think I found the answer...... sort of. It's like reading reviews, everyone has their own opinion. Think I'll get the Northern Tool 5x8..... it has some good reviews. Anybody using this trailer have any input? I do know that the shipping boxes are totally destroyed by the time they reach you. Thanks, Jim

I have the Harbor Freight, but if I'd had the extra money at the time, I would have gotten the norther tool. You won't be unhappy!

Harbor Freight trailer is so popular because it is so cheap.

Hi Jim, if you want to see a bunch of teardrops at one time, there is a gathering ( Teardroppers of Oregon and Washington) near Chehalis this coming weekend. If you go to the Northwest section under gatherings and check out the Summer Daze thread, it should lead you to a contact email to ask about dropping by. Not sure if that's close enough to you for a day trip, but thought I would throw it out there.
Welcome to the madness,
Maureen
