Hey Randy, you're not in any danger, are you?

Make sure you get the heck out if you need to. This place wouldn't be the same without you, so no heroics or silly stuborness. You're there so you know better than us, but beat feet if you have to. We got your back if you need anything.

I am not in any danger, I am well inside irrigated farm land. Miles of green Potato, Sugar beets, alfalfa and corn fields between the fires and me.

At least we have not had much wind this week. With wind those fires out there will run 50-75 miles in one day. That is when you start saying "Jeep don't fail me now"

Here is a somewhat good link to the Flat Top fire

Flat Top Fire

Click on "Hybrid" in the map and you will see satellite pics. You can see the black of the lava flows on the east border of the fire. Nothing to burn in there. Here the wind usually blows from west to east so it is getting pushed into the lavas except on the south border. Yesterday I saw the south border a lot further south than is shown. Also on the south you can see the pivot irrigated fields. Fire will not go into those unless they are a dry wheat or barley field but most of those have had back fires to protect them. Yesterday I saw several growers setting back fires as the range fire got withing about 1/2 mile of them. Just what I would do. To set a back fire first you disk a fire break on the edge of your dry field and when the fire gets close you start lighting up on the edge of the fire break away from your field and let that fire burn into the main fire.

On that pic you can see an arm of the fire on the north east of the fire. The north edge of that is the road I took last summer on my May camping trip to Mordor.

Glad to hear you're OK. Been a pretty dry summer here in the Sierras too. Worried about dry lightning strikes. People around here are talking about an early fall. Seems that when the squirrels get squirrely fall is coming and the squirrels have been active. Summer foliage is already dying off in places too. Been so busy working on Road Foamie that I haven't enjoyed summer yet. Hope to be fully assembled and glassed, paint ready by the end of the weekend. should be ready for fall camping. My favorite!!

she is beautiful. so are you going to do her training? or are you just suppose to have her for the year and then give her up? how old is she?

The breeder has already started the training...since she was the only one in the litter she knows her name and basic commands and is only 58 days old we went through one pair of jeans already(sharp teeth)

Hi Eaglesdare, that pause table is ingenious. How did you fasten the foam to the PVC? Would you mind posting a pic of the back when you have time? Thanks!

hi laura, thanks so much! the fastening was easy.. gorilla glue! just a reminder, please keep gorilla glue away from dogs!
i will get a pic of the underside once the sun comes up. i know i have read where folks paint with sand mixed in, so the dogs won't slip. but i used canvas and paint, they won't slip on that either. just stuff i already had around the house.

btw: that pup in your avatar is adorable. are you working him/her in agility?

After 7 years I’m still trying to train my dog NOT to bark when the air conditioner comes on ... so one must assume a level of intelligence is necessary for training ...
