From my experience a 2" foam roof will sag a bit (about 1/4" in a 7 foot wide span) in the middle without some support. I used 1 x 3's laid flat about 18" apart for spars and bulkheads front and rear to provide roof support. Although I haven't walked on it, I have crawled a bit on it (just the edges) and it didn't collapse under my 200 plus pound body. Me crawling on all fours... hmmm glad someone didn't take

Mel, I can see many good reasons for bracing the roof ... But since I’ll (theoretically) be using 3.5” thick foam , I don’t think there will be much sag after I skin both sides (schmaybe’ ? ) ... For a big flat box like the LW, I’m thinking about skinning the panels inside and out before attaching them ... so much easier to do for one person ... but then we’ll have to pre-round all the edges ... Then all I have to add is the reinforcing strips , and I’m thinking about using that fiberglass tape like I did last time (it’s held up very well) And it’s easy ...
I had thought of hot wiring some slots in the foam as mentioned ^ and glue flush some ribs .. that seems like a good choice too, and a multitude of attachment places for miscellaneous items related to camping ... LED light fixtures,cargo nets, Lanterns, Christmas lights , incidental wiring ex post facto, etc. . ... So much thinking for such a simple box ... I find , the simpler you try to make it , the More thinking you have to do ... Everything has to be accounted for during all phases of construction..

Good point about the thicker foam, it shouldn't sag if 2" barely sags.

That's the one disadvantage I've discovered while building the Road Foamie. You've got to preplan where you want to hang or run anything . If you're planning on hanging anything, you'd better know where cuz you're going to need to add a hardpoint or have some other underlying structure that you can screw into. If you're running electrical, you've got to know that before you skin over. Other than that, I love it...

It’s difficult to account for Everything that must be mounted ... True Dat ! But you can easily add a hard point later ... if needed ... just not as easy as one that’s planned for in advance ... All part of that pre thinking we must do ...

Me too! BTW, what do you plan to have in the wedge - storage?

I've been thinking of something like this plus a lifting roof like the BUB or a tilting roof like a Compact for some time. It's time to see some foam dust!

Tom , thinking the wedge would have a big divided shelf for storage (and the Cat) and below would be the slip in , slip out AC ... and a door/hatch for that ...
A foam roof with canvas like the Bub might be a lot Lighter , and just some simple old timer supports needed ..

I might have screwed up ... Called the guy with the foam , left a message , answer came there none ... I hope he still has some foam left ... otherwise we might have to resort to Plan B , actually buying foam retail ...

One of the rules of Salvage is : "If you see a good deal , jump on it , it won’t be there long" ..... I forgot about that ..

Called the gentleman back , he’s still got the Foam but is moving it Monday because of the uncertainty of the approaching storm ... It would all just blow away ... Trying to get down there this weekend .... have to arrange some help ... Fortunate I didn’t miss this ...
