My tiny construction...

Postby Mikka » Wed Sep 26, 2012 4:48 pm

I did not want to put in in the build journal as it is not really a tiny trailer. I have however stolen at least an idea off this forum put out by a gentleman whom I can't remember the name.
I had a small trailer (48"x42" platform) for which I had no use for. At first I had planned to extend the platform, move the axle back etc. etc. to turn it into an ice fishing shack, but found out that it would be too much expensive for the metal to justify the expense.
Then one night, looking at deer blinds, in downed on me! Turn the trailer into a "balemobile" Basically, a replica of a hay bale on wheels :D
Construction started the next morning! It is fully insulated, floor and walls, I made the windown from scatch, they are double sealed pane of glass to avoid condensation and the door was also built from scratch. the walls are of an overall thickness of 2" while the floor is 4". No fancy construction material, just 2x4's ripped to size and and 1/4" OSB.
As for the idea stolen from the gentleman, it was the use of weed fabric (the cloth type) to cover the OSB to waterproof the construction. I found this material very easy to work with and on a test I tried out before, once the paint was dried, it was impossible to separate the cloth from the OSB whitout pulling the OSB apart.
This is not a fancy construction, I could have spent more time to make it fancy, like sanding gown the joints etc. but deer don't care for fancy!
Anyway, iy is always fun to look at pictures, I posted a few and more can be found here. http://smg.beta.photobucket.com/user/Mo ... e%20mobile

My guess is that it would depend how well paint sticks to foam.

Good for you building light and tiny. I too have built on a 40" x 48" HF frame, and had to take yoga lessons so I could sleep with my knees next to my ears. Do you plan to do the same, or is there room somehow in the upper area to allow a raised 6 ft bed? What is the final weight of the unit and how thick are the sidewalls? Good idea, enjoy.

Nice job.. I found my "Gear Box" 48 x40 HF trailed behind my RAV-4 and never knew it was there. It bounced a little on uneven pavement.

Hi, this construction was never buit with the idea to sleep in it. It is strickly a "mobile" blind for deer and turkey hunting. I built it based on a the size a a local hay bale. 4' wide by 5' circumference. It is nice and cozy inside. The overall tickness of the wall is 2". I have no idea how much it weights, but it is very light. Thnaks for looking.

You need to get some baling twine or net wrap, and give it an outside hay layer to complete the disguise.

I just pull a hulk of an old chopper wagon out into a field in the spring. Come fall, the deer have learned to ignore it...

Don't really want to have a layer of wet hay on top of it. I a, afraid it will damp the wood. Not my land, it belongs to my friend and I live it the way i found it after hunting. If it was mine, it would be different story. :D
