Drawer Glides, do you use then or not?

I just finished up a real nice Teardrop for resale and in the Galley It has 3 drawers.



A guy asked why I didn't use Drawer Glides (with rollers) I told him I use a Friction glide and you have to lift the drawer first to pull it out. We had these on Ship because they wouldn't open while bouncing around....same as in a Tear.

I used drawer glides in 1 tear and it was always another thing I had to "Bungee" up before I took off. Or, another thing to forget!

If I forgot, they were always coming open, and shutting in transit.

On a shelf for a cooler where you can put a lock on it I'm OK.

But....

Do you think Drawer glides are worth it?

I'll vote for friction guides which is what I have.

being an old sailor I liked the lift to open drawers, once learned they are easily opened
I think the "stay closed" outweights the slide feature
one of my factory built travel trailers had "lift to open" drawers

Drawers in a home that will get a LOT more use are a different discussion,...

Hate to be different but I am a drawer slide guy, Never have needed to bungee them closed. Never had any sort of problem at all.

I use full extension, side mounted, drawer guides and have no issues since they have a detente that keeps them closed. Danny

If you use the more inexpensive slides, you can get a cheap pinch type roller latch to go on the back of them to hold them closed. I usually only put in 1 drawer, but the cooler and stove/pantry are on sliders. My drawers stay shut, but the cooler will slide without the lock on it. Doug

I also like slides. I use the "RV" versions of the K&V slides that have a stronger close spring to keep the drawers from opening.

My biggest problem with my hobbies is that I don't have much time to spend on them. The slides are expensive, but it saves me fabrication time. (I also buy pre-fabricated drawer boxes for this reason too.)

Thats a pretty good idea Doug.

I forget what there called but everybody has seen them. Have to look up the name tomorrow.
