Anybody packin?

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

really a personal choice. I know here in Texas, most of the gun ranges have "loaner" guns that you can shoot several different types, calibers, etc., and decide what you like. I will carry my XD 45 during winter time, when a large jacket can hide the bulk of that large frame.. Other times, I like my Ruger LCP 380, as it fits in the pocket or boot without a bulge.

It's one of those things. Our Country has a constitution which seriously limits the grasps of the Federal Government. While I don't expect those in other countries to understand or endorse it; Our constitution is meant more to protect our states and citizens, and our way of life; from an over-reaching oppressive government. We have the second amendment (part of the bill of rights), which says that the government shall not infringe on our right to keep and bear arms.
Enough of that though..

I must ask you: if I have a right to, and there's no harm in me doing it, why do you care if I do? Why do you drive a car? Why do you eat peanut butter? Why do you carry a cell phone? I mean certainly there's nothing in your life so important that it couldn't wait until you reached a land line, to make a phone call? It's because you can, and it's a matter of convenience..

I guess it boils down to this: Why do I carry a gun? Because a cop is too heavy.

A good read might be to google: "on sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs"

This is a hot button topic for sure. There are no right or wrong answers. I say each person SHOULD have the right to choose.

A good analogy.

Many of us have fire extinguishers and never use them, but they sure are nice to have if you need it.

And just to add:
If you never threaten myself or my family with harm, then you'll never be aware if I am armed or not. But let's say that you come to the US, and we're sitting in a theatre. You're there with your family, and I with mine. Let's suppose for a moment that a wacko comes in the fire exit, and begins shooting up the place. Then let's say (hypothetically of course), that I have the faculties to stop the madman, and save you and your family, and countless others' lives. Wouldn't you be pleased that I'd taken the time and action necessary to be carrying a concealed weapon ? Then why in the world would you want to diminish my right to do so? Just because you don't have the permission of an oppressive government to arm yourself; Why would you question my desire to exercise my rights?

Bingo!!

The Colorado shooting was the main reason I decided to get a permit.

Larry,

I'm with you, and believe all should have the choice to choose, either way.
A thought though, on the presentation;
Posting about your new "toys" could imply they are for play, and not for the serious business of defending.

Here is the link mentioned above, that all should read, no matter which "side" you take.
Understanding the reasons for, and against must be the first step in making any decision requiring taking a "side".

A .380 would be about as small as you would want to go. The ruger lcp is a fine little handgun and is very popular. The one I own is surprisingly accurate. The little 22 mag revolver I own is more of a conversation piece than anything. It's too small of a caliber to seriously pack plus it's not accurate at all. Come to think of it, I'll probably be trading that one off.

Hey Rob

You're right. Maybe I shouldn't have started this thread the way I did. I was just alittle excited about the new guns i guess.
I was also curious as to who else might have a ccdw permit.

According to Freud, “A fear of weapons is a sign of retarded sexual and emotional maturity”. :R

So much for the absolute accuracy of any psychobabble.

As someone who spent almost two years being stalked by a convicted killer and certified nut, you bet that I carry. I learned early on that there are predators in ANY society and that it is far better to meet them on terms of equality rather than as unarmed prey, and that a good, "normal" lifestyle is no guarantee against one of these critters coming into your life.

Do I fear? No

Do I worry? No.

I put a possible further attack in the same category as a weather or medical emergency. My handgun and the training to use it are simply emergency equipment -- just like the fire extinguisher, warm blankets, and first aid kit that stay in my car.

Handguns and shotguns and other self protection is more a part of our culture than we'd like to admit.

You won't know why you have one untl the time comes when you you wish you had one.

Kind of like a big fire extinquisher. There are essential in the right circumstances.

If you ever had a fire at home you know what I mean. :)

i know they are not that welled trained in the navy. i got qualified to carry a rifle while on a ship. my qualification called for me to aim my gun into the ocean, while out to sea, and fire. if i hit the ocean, i was then qualified to carry the rifle. guess what? i made it.
now 22's and 45's were another story. i was the only one that could actually hit the mark, time and time again. several medals and even on the navy's gun team. we did lots of competitions with the local police and state boys.
but the funny thing was, while i could not shoot the rifle (well into the ocean yes), but i was allowed to carry that weapon. the 45 that i could actually use, i had to get special permission. my request had to go all the way to the c.o.
so i don't buy into the military are trained to use the weapons, should be yes, but actually are, no....

When I was at an Officer's basic course for the Army Medical Department, we had to fire both the .45 and the M-16. The instructors told the nurses, "..The big bullets go in the big gun, the little bullets go in the little gun, and if possible, don't touch either one!" As a former enlisted, range officer and instructor, I had to agree with them. ;)
