England isnt a safe place and they have special armed police trainded only to shoot certain individuals.

America is divided on CCW.

Canada is crime free utopia.

Len is a busnes owner.

LDK is workin on his CCW and has a bunch of holsters.

Slow has a great sence of humor!

Not really no, it was simply that the police were then allowed to carry firearms if the situation warranted it. Basically, historically the British public have a fear of a government sponsored militia, so when Robert Peel set up the modern police, they were forbidden to carry firearms, as times changed that rule changed and so eventually they were allowed to have firearms if needed. And Civilians were still allowed to carry pistols as well.
Britain has a long and complicated history with firearms and both the police and civilians owning and carrying them.

And even now, armed crime is so rare it still makes the news, and most civilians don't feel the need to carry weapons. Even if someone breaks into our homes, we have the legal right to use as much force as WE fell is necessary to defend out selves, the only time any one would face prosecution is if they killed the burglar while he was running away or trying to escape, other than that we can use deadly force if we feel it is necessary.

Do you experience a lot of home invasion type crimes?
Are criminals more likely to be darn sure no one is at home before coming in, or do your laws on home/self defense pretty much discourage this type of crime?

Guns are "scary" to those without a more-practical knowledge of them.

Firearms are dangerous in the hands of those who have no proper training in their safe handling and operation... and may I remind the reader that the United States, Canada and the lifestyles of their citizens would not be possible today had it not been for the previous use of firearms.

I cringe reading the posted naivete that declares the assumption that a violent perpetrator can be pacified and any dangerous conflict resolved by "discussion over a beer". That is absurd. On the other hand, respect shown to another human being can go a long way towards the mitigation of any potential conflict...

biziedizie,
Yours was the second post on this subject, and it started this lively discussion. To answer your question: "what do you need hand guns for" let me say those that venture into the back country almost anywhere are subject to more than other people wanting to do them harm.

Many years ago I saw a documentary about "Predatory Black Bears" (Google it) Most of it was incidents that happened in Canada. There were some in Algonquin Park in Ontario. One was a bear had attacked and killed, I believe 2 people along a busy trail. The bear was starting to attack others when a man with a hand gun killed the bear. I don't know if it was an illegal gun or if it was before they were all taken away.

The point is: Hand guns have much more use than just keeping the crazies at bay. In most parts of North America there is some form of wild animal that could do you harm. Mountain lions attack runners and mountain bikers. Black and Brown bears attack hikers and back country campers. Rabies is an issue in many areas making docile wildlife just as threatening. Granted these incidents are few and far between, but pepper spray ain't the answer IMHO :D

Have you ever tryed to pepper spray a coon rabid and hell bent on sinking his teeth in ya?

I have and it wasnt pretty. Its kinda funny now but wasnt then. I think I had more pepper spray in my eyes than he did. Had it not been a pickup truck to dive in, he would of gotten me. I now carry a side arm for this very reason.

Someone said something about Admin not deleting post in this thread. Well you know not what you're talking about because I know there is at least one that has deleted a few post. Ask me how I know. And I haven't said anything that hasn't been said in the last couple of pages except I said them earlier. I even made a suggestion to one member on what to say to his kid and that post got deleted and it was only a suggestion and nothing more. So it depends on who says what, when it comes to a post being deleted by an Administrator.

Okay, I was wrong.

:shake hands:

Sounds like the administrators are taking their job seriously and only removing posts they find offensive.
Seems very reasonable to me.
I'm glad they are using restraint and leaving the rest, no doubt it would be easier to push the delete button and walk away from it all.

Nope not really, most thieving from houses takes place when people aren't home, would you believe it during the day. Of course there are a few Home invasions when people are in the house. But not as many as you'd think. Not sure if it's the laws so much as the press being behind the victim and not the criminal, so the guy who smacks the burglar around is a hero and not the criminal.

Thank you.

I like the way you folks look at it!

Here, the burglar can sue you for hurting him and usually wins...
The victim is victimized twice.
