Sorry, Pete....you're buried!!! 12" here on the southside of Indy. I haven't seen your totals, but I-64 and US 41 were closed before noon. But, good news.....the Blizzard of 2012 is over!!!

Well it's the Monday update on wednesday.......

Went by work and cut some 1x6's into window, door, and corner trim....



retreated indoors and spent a few hours prepainting them....



Spent a couple hours refitting a nice oil lantern into 120 volt ac with a compact florescent and a 12 volt dc dome light fixture for the observation platform at the rear of the caboose.





Added the entry lites to the side door as well . I used the damaged 9 volt led that I had hooked to 12 volt and kinda wounded it. While it no longer puts out a real strong lite it is a gentle soft light and I also installed 2 low voltage leds as well. In the picture you can also see the 99 cent Goodwill grab bar now installed.



Here is a shot of my recycled rear door now fully installed with all the stops and locks installed.



So you see I am still grinding along despite the snow and cold !

Kind of as a post script I found these this past week and they are driving me nuts....







If I had to guess maybe a drop leaf side arms for a day bed or a futon but I don't have a clue found them in the trash and rescued them. It is really nice wood and a good finish I just don't have a clue why I need them

Anyone have a good idea how to utilize them in a tiny house build. I just know they would make a neat something

Another cold frozen Monday update.....

Well it was bitter and I had a house full all weekend so not much to report but I did get out to the "first Sunday flea market and found a whopping $7 worth of build junk.



Yep the elusive skate board trucks I wanted to use on the movable wall at the bathroom.

A nice vintage thru the wall kitchen faucet. Before and after a first effort cleanup.

I completely disassembled it into 20+ parts and am purchasing all new washers and packing glands for it at the plumbing shop next door at work. It shoud be better than new when I am finished rebuilding it. I wanted something that looked as if it belonged in an old caboose I think this is the ticket.

I also removed my poor sunburned and weathered old baggage door



and took it in the house to warm up and later sanded and applied the 1st of 4 coats of pure white tractor enamel on it. Sorry no picture but it was a bit blotchy yet anyway I would rather show it off when its pretty.

Good snag on the faucet Bob, that should look fine in the caboose.

The weather (& trying to get completely over a 3-4 week cold) has kept me in attached to the computer. I've dismantled 5 old pc's for parts. Salvaged hard drives, dvd roms, fans, etc. Been trying to learn Sketchup (thanks to danlott)

I love the faucet! Glad you're making progress, even if it's not as fast as you'd like. Hopefully the weather cooperates, it's supposed to warm up here this week so I'm hoping maybe I can accomplish something, even if it's wrong.

Well as I said in the earlier post I had completely disasembled the vintage faucet.

Yesterday I went in search of rebuild parts to make it as good as new. I really like my little plumbing shop. They are often times just glad to see a customer and I placed the partially disassembled faucet on the counter and pointed to the parts I needed. The owner had them in hand in a flash and proceded to install the seat washers. The domed stem washers are no longer available so he produced some graphite inpregnated packing twine that is used as a substitute and proceded to instruct me in how to install it. He inspected the fixed seats and pronounced them adequate and handed me the bill.

As I was leaving he made a comment...

" Sure beats those new plastic throw away faucets."
"There is nothing that can be repaired in them."

Great to hear Bob - I love it when I can breathe new life into something that's been written off. Maybe that's why even my dogs have always come from shelters

I like the use of skateboard trucks too - clever, I wouldn't have thought of that.

Well the 4 coats are on and the door has been reinstalled. I am as proud as a new papa. I promise I will get ya a picture. It's not much of an accomplishment but it's movement in the right direction.

I have this rainy but warm weekend earmarked for the sliding wall I am installing to close off the bath area when in use.

Friday update............

Here is a pic I snapped Thursday evening.



Windows have not even been detailed (scraped) yet but the door is up and swinging. Have 3/4 x 5" stops to add to top and sides and the 2 3/4 halo trim will be installed. It is all painted and waiting. Maybe the rain will give me a little break to get that done.

Snow storms in Southern California and 20 something in Arizona and here it was in the mid sixties

Saturday was a beautiful day so we went cabinet shopping stopped by habitat for Humanity and they are becoming a great rip off. Just too rich for my cheap skate heart. So I took a drive to a building supply discount store about an hour away. Great prices but his inventory was way down for the end of the year. I told him exactly what I was looking for in cabinets and a few small windows. He seemed to feel this was no problem and took my name and number and said he would call. I have done business with them for a dozen years or more and they are great folks.

As to the weekend progress ,Sunday, I cut the baggage door jambs at work and took them home and painted them. I also put a second coat on 20 some sticks of pre cut trim lumber
( yes there are 20 some more yet to paint ) It was raining and freezing on everything and it was trecherous trying to walk outside so I stayed in the kitchen and tossed wood in the wood stove and happily painted away. It's all gotta be done so that's 4 to 5 hours I won't need to do later!

What a difference some trim makes !







I spent Saturday loading the barn for the Shivaree campout but did manage to install the door jambs and the trim on the Caboose. The gap at the floor is for the 3/4 flooring and the threshhold yet to be installed. I went inside and briefly took some measurments for the bath wall (and changed my mind 5 or 6 times) but that's another day......
