That's quite a ways south of Myrtle Beach... how does it compare? What do you like so much about Hunting Island?

I haven't been camping at either place yet. We are going to Hunting Island since it is the closest coastal campground to where we live in Aiken, S.C. We go there a lot and hike all around the island and climb the lighthouse. Lots to do in the area. Nearby Beaufort is a beautiful little waterfront town where a lot of movies were made (Big Chill, Conrack, Forrest Gump, etc.). My first job took me to Hunting Island over 40 years ago where I saw the park folks cleaning commodes from the bath houses by placing them in the surf and letting the sand and water scour them clean. For some reason that vision has stuck with me all these years. We'll be moving up the coast in April to the James Island County Park near Charleston, another nice place to explore. I guess we'll eventually make it to Edisto and Myrtle Beach. It is amazing how many really neat campgrounds we have within a two hours drive of us right here in the state from the mountains to the coast.

I am still hoping to get one trip in before the snow goes along Lake Suerior on the Minnesota side.

It would be so worth the trip. Hunting island is secluded and one of the most beautiful places in south Carolina. Its beaches and island are constantly changing because of erosian. I believe tthe light house is one of the last few you can go in and its only a buck or two to get in it. well worth the drive from Myrtle Beach. Also a good restaurant in the area is 11th street Dockside in port royal which is a mile or so from Beaufort. Larry my wife and I are coming to Hunting Island sometime this year hope to see you there. ben

We're thinking Outer Banks in mid May?

Maybe Florida in September.

Going to Erie, PA in early April. Virginia Beach with the Old Dominion Tearjerkers in mid April. Probably Erie, PA again in early May, then Templeton, PA over Memorial Day weekend. Going to the Great Smokey Mountains (Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, TN over July 4th week). Cooksburg, PA with the Liberty Bell Tearjerkers in mid August. These are the ones that are already planned so far. There will probably be at least 5 more places before Nov 1 rolls around. These are with the trailers. In December, I plan on going back to the Florida Keys by plane.

At the beach at Hunting Island State Park, SC. Still our favorite...what's not to like about the beach, the ocean, and a low country boil at campsite? Also one of the few places you can take your dogs on the beach! Sorry for all the extra pics but I really want to go and I just got carried away!
