General question as I gt atarted:
Best way to mount spare tire on Grumman 2? Plan diagram appears to place underneath floor in front of wheels, but method unclear.

I bought an adapter so that I can use the spare from the TV on the trailer.

I find it convenient to carry the spare in the back of my Subaru Wagon tow vehicle. If I ever do need it the spare will be very easy to access rather than crawling under the trailer while it is jacked up.

I cheat the system and roll the dice...I have new tires on all the trailers...and I don't usually carry a spare. If I'm going to caravan with others on a long trip, we make sure that someone has a compatible wheel/tire combo in the group. I do have a "spare" but it's a 13" with the same bolt pattern as all my trailers. It'll get me to a tire shop, might be leaning on 1 side, but it'll get me there. I only take it on longer hauls...Doug

I too "rolled the dice" and didn't carry (or even have) a spare for my trailer, until last May on my way home from the DAM Gathering (about 250 miles in each direction), I had a blowout on the trailer.

Luckily I was less than 5 miles from home so was able to go home to get a floor jack and jack stand so I could take the wheel to have a new tire mounted.

Now I carry a spare. I built a storage compartment inside the teardrop to hold the tools, spare, battery, etc.

My first 2 summers I "rolled the dice".

Then I bought a spare tire mount from Harbor Freight and bolted it to the underside of the trailer deck.

Don't have a Grumman design, but I used a spare carrier off of an S-10 pick up. Cranks up and down if needed, used a compact spare to save weight / space. Hope to not ever need it, and if I do, a temporary will get me down the road until I find a replacement.


Not saying it's perfect, but it worked for me. (I didn't want to be crawling around under mine, because if I would have a flat, it would most certainly be raining)

Thanks to all of you who responded. Think I'm going to sacrifice 6" of the galley and store it upright under the counter at one end of the galley.

I did like Zak with the Harbor Freight Spare tire bracket. It has worked well for me and is very sturdy and out of the way, regardless of what the nay sayers say. I would do it again. Here is the link to the thread. I have a grumman 2 profile on a HF frame

Although my trailers have 12 and 13 inch tires I carry my "space saver spare" an 8" !

Yep it will look a little funny wandering down the road if I have a flat. However, it is easy on and easy off and you don't have to lift weights to get in shape to change tires. I toss it in the bed of the pickup and make sure I have my jack and a 4 way lug wrench and we are off.

I keep mine in the back of ranger,,,,easy to get to and keeps my tool box from rolling around.....Not a big fan of bolt on accessaries,,,,and I'm always in a hurry and lazy by nature,,,,I like to call it energy saving....
