I'm about where I expected @ $2100.oo total. I'm campable. I want a 12 volt T.V. and a new fresh H2O tank but that's about all. Oh, I may replace my air mattress. I'm surprised how much a foam mattress will cost!

I have about $3800 tied up in mine, including the 2 batteries and the solar panel I just bought.

There were a few items that I splurged on which jacked up my cost though... nice hatch latches, the marine stereo system & subwoofer, the remote lighting system, etc.

I have about $1200 into mine; which is less than what I budgeted. I collected a lot of materials from a company before it actually went into the dumpster( styrafoam, AL, plexiglass, etc). Some of the left over material (like aluminum) when to to the recycler for cash, which then was used to purchase new stuff. Buying all new probably would have pushed me over my budget. Bottom line is I'm just as happy with the camper.

I am glad to see these numbers myself, as I am just getting into the build. I was thinking anywhere between 2 to 40 grand!

I've got about $3500 in mine. That includes everything and I consider it finished. Didn't really keep track. I got or used the best I could find at the cheapest price. And I'm happy with the end result. I finished it in 2002 and it is still going strong. You can see the end result HERE

I'm afraid to total it all up - guessing north of $5000.

I'm keeping all the receipts, haven't added them up yet! And, for now I don't want to know....But its fun, and mind boggling at the same time! A beer or two at the right moment helps to clear things up!!

To be fair, your $3,500 in 2002 would equate to about $4,400 in 2013 according to http://www.measuringworth.com/uscompare/relativevalue.php :-)

One good thing about it. I did everything just once. That's because I took my time and thought everything out  (as I went) before building. I would also think 'what would I do different if I did it this way'. It took me 2 1/2 years to build. Again, think things out and don't take short cuts. Build to your goal no matter how small it may be. ;)

Wow!
Guess I got out of control.
Even though I have always been known for my ability to shop for bargains and work with what I have!
My project that I thought would be 2 to 3 weeks.....................Let's build a cheap sleeper traler from a car????????????
Obviously escalated into a major 14 month project!
That, with the man hours put in by myself and my employees, cost way more than anyone could have ever imagined. :x
Even though I enjoyed the build immensly, the reality is that it cost way MORE than we thought! :)
I have seriously not done the math yet.....only because I am afraid!
Truth is, I know it is somewhere beteen $50,000.00 & $60,000.00.
I know that everyone here is trying to impress everyone else with how little they spent to build their Tear Drops. And don't have to account for their time. As it is their spare time or their hobby. :NC
Well, I could write off my time too.....if I wasn't still in business and paying my employees that assisted with this project on time that I could have billed out!!!
Not that I regret it , as it is money that I could have spent on a ready made "Motorhome" or "RV" that I don't think would have given us the pleasure we hope to receive from Tear Drop camping and the people we hope to meet in the Tear Drop Community. :D.........I have already had a motor home and hated it! I am a tenter at heart, but getting old!

You see my friend, we are much the same. I don't care what my TD will cost. It'll be under budget. I been designing things under budget my whole life, if that's what is important.
