Global Link slam latches

Postby pmowers » Sun Feb 24, 2013 12:30 pm

I recently ordered a Fastec slam latch from Amazon.com. The picture was of a Fastec latch that many of you have used. The listing said that it was by Fastec.
When it arrived, it had rvlocksandmore.com molded into the inside handle, rather than the Fastec name and address. Additionally, the outside handle has a G molded into it, rather than the Fastec logo on the bottom of the finger cup. Keys are also coded with a "G" instead of a "CH". All said, I am pretty darn confident that I have been bait & switched by the seller, especially after talking to Fastec customer service.

Has anyone had any experience with the Global Link locks- I did finally get the seller to say that I could return it. If I do, it will be to a big stink with Amazon, I am not about to be any out of pocket for this.

Am I just being crotchety in middle age? Or is it no big deal?

Depends on whether they hold up or not. If you install them, and they work right, and last a reasonable amount of time, I'd be prone to not worry about it.

Don't worry about being crotchety, you ordered and paid for what was advertised, which was the Fastec latch. They didn't send you the same part that was pictured/advertised. Period. Now, was there a disclaimer (even in the fine print) that mentioned that the part received may or may not be the part shown? That it was only a "style" reference picture? If not, you've been hornswaggled.
Is the quality and function that same? Who knows, that's yet to be determined. But then again, you don't have both brands side by side to do a comparison.

If you feel you've been wronged, I would ask to be sent the correct part that I ordered / paid for and it shouldn't cost you a dime. If the vender isn't willing to cooperate (it sounds like they are though), get Amazon involved.

Some people on the forum diss on eBay, but I've not been burnt (yet) and eBay & PayPal will back me up if need be (or that has been my feelings and observations, hope I never have to find out if I'm wrong). I read the feedback before placing my order. I do everything as honost as to my knowledge and I expect to be treated the same. I pay for what I get and I expect to get what I pay for.
IMHO :D
