What to see in Colorado

Tarryall reservoir.... great rustic campground with a great lake and lots of trails near by. Cumo, the small town near by. Go to the old train station which is resteraunt and small hotel i believe. Chow is great.



I hope to go back this year too..

We have been figured out!
Part of our Holiday plans revolve around "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" ..........we love to eat!
The show has prompted us to select certain towns that have specific restaurants we want to visit.
I am on google maps trying to find Cumo. If we are within a 100 miles I will make a point of pointing the Stude there for lunch!!

Never been to Colorado, but a guy I once worked for moved there and told me there was a real interesting mining museum but I don't know where it is. A few years ago on TV there was a show, maybe on PBS, about finding and rescuing an old steam shovel that had been used on the Panama Canal. It had been brought back and used in Colorado and eventually abandoned out in the woods. It was made operable, on air pressure, not steam, and moved to some museum, possibly that mining museum that I was told about. I like, and even own, some old machinery, so I found that quite interesting.

I am currently restoring a 1933 Federal Tanker truck for a customer.
He is into Steam! And has numerous large Steam engines. He is also currently restoring (almost finished now) an 1912 Marion Steam shovel.
It is very cool!

Brian and Sandi, If you are heading to Colorado first, starting North. Rocky Mountain Park out of Fort Collins to Golden, then the back roads of the Pike National Forest to Colorado Springs (Pikes Peak). Then going to Utah through South Western Colorado, Mesa Verde National Park near Durango and Cortez. Head to the 4 corners monument (where Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah meet). Once in Utah head north to Moab and check out Arches, Canyonlands National Parks and Dead Horse State Park. Head South and West on back highways past Grand Staircase/Escalante National Monument to Brice and on to Zion then to the Grand Canyon.

It is almost exactly what we have mapped out after all of the suggestions we have recieved!
Colorado springs is the first actual scheduled (committed) stop that we have to make. SDC Meet! And Pikes peek is on the MUST list!

We really enjoyed Rocky Mtn Nat Park near Estes, CO. We were there in the fall for the elk rut, was neat to see all the elk that close.


On another trip we went to Mesa Verde, that was really cool to see and go through the cliff dwellings (tight fit for me, crawling through the small openings, 6'4" - 200#)

Looks like you have a great plan there. The only recommendation is on your way out of Colorado Springs check out Garden of the Gods. I grew up around there and it is amazing!
