What about making the potty walls have plastic, lexan or glass panels in them, so the light can diffuse through? You could buy a roll of plastic privacy film at Home Depot, or way cheaper at Ikea (or sandblast, if glass) and apply that. There are lots of nice patterns out there...that might help the "closed in" feeling. :)

Bob, You would need a diode to protect your circuts. Diodes only pass voltage in one direction . Not sure you would need to protect the high voltage transformer from the low voltage circut, but you would want to protect the low voltage side from the high. too many expensive parts that direction. Hopefully an electrical engineer will step in with better information. I ain't one. I would just use the low voltage lighting and be done.

Well another Monday update..... Decided for now to simply power the 9 volt Led lights with the 120 volt AC and take the inverter loss. The need to get this project moving was my main reason to take this short cut. I will probably regret it later but time is of the essence. Spent the entire day yesterday in the caboose.

I built and installed the front enclosure for one of the two HVAC circulation fans. This one is powered with one of the auto radiator fans. I am a bit concerned with it's power appetite and output of air. I gutted and retrofit an O2Kool fan for the rear unit to try and see which will be more suitable for the job.

I finished powering up the 4 Led galley lights and also, installed about a dozen duplex outlets and switches.

I mounted the 40 amp circuit breaker box that was salvaged from the original demolished donor trailer.

My campin buddy Scuba stopped by late and took a tour of the caboose about dusk.
I temp wired the LED's so we could see what the light actually looked like in the semi darkness. I was well pleased. It is a nice bright white light that is easily aimable thanks to the desk lamp goose necks. I am now sold on the wall sconce idea they make nice wash lighting and they are up and out of the way. One more good weekend and the electrical should be finished. Then on to plumbing.

Played hooky from work Tuesday and after stiring up the s#%t at the department of transportation about the 2 plots of land I am still trying to buy I went home mad as hell and put the head of steam to good use. OK OK I will give you the 10 second version.....

In august the enviromental inspection was ordered according to e mails I have in my possession. Well the short version they are starting to think about finding out of there are any bio hazzards on the property. Yep a letter to the govenor is next.

Any way that enough about our highly effecient state goverment employees.

Here are some inside shots I took about midnight of my little desk lamp converted wall sconces and the 120 volt wiring progress.

Image

The 4 light vanity light bar is located above the door temporarily. It will be moved over the bath sink and two more sconces will be added to look just like the front window picture further down.

Here is an up shot of the 12 volt automotive cooling fan installed as the HVAC mixing unit we have talked about several posts back.

These inside pictures were taken well after midnight. I wanted to get the feel of the caboose kitchen after dark. This cooktop picture shows the warm white glow of the 2 LED sconce lights. It is starting to feel like a home.

Just a few more outlets and switches and the 120 volt ac wiring is finished. Then onto the DC system , and the gas line , and the plumbing, and on and on ...........

Well it's Monday again and it was a very productive weekend.

Image
remember these cabinets in the background ?

Image
Well the uppers are hung in the drivers side galley wall

Image
and the bases and counter top are at the ready. I need to insulate and overbuild the wheel well and notch the 2 inside cabinet walls and they will be in next week.

Image
here is the disappearing storage wall/door looking from the center kitchen out the back door in the bath area. The wall on the left will covered with 1" foam and them a pegboard for hanging kitchen tools and maybe a small spice rack.

Image
here we are looking forward standing in the bath room the storage wall/door is closing.

Image
here it is closed. I toyed with facing the kitchen and decided the cabinets will be enough storage and I needed a place for folded clothes, linens ,towels, and such and the most logical was the bath area. It needs guides and being a knockdown style cabinet a solid plywood back glued and screwed on it is in order as well. But my skate board roller system works real slick

Worked about 8 hours Saturday on the AC electrics.

Sunday I jumped out at 7 AM and insulated and enclosed the driverside wheelwell so I could install the base cabinets. I cut away the base cabinets to clear the new wheelwell cover. It will make a great elevated pot and pan shelf.

Image

Here is a shot thru the front window showing the side panels hiding the wheelwell.

Image

My sconces could have been just a bit longer note the shadow line....

Image

I also started roughing in the front corner cabinet for the electronics and electrical center.

Image

All the while inside was 40-43 degrees and this going on outside....

Image

I finally turned back to the electrics and finished them up all the outlets work just fine and lights are wall switched as well as being able to shut them off at seperate units to reduce the power drain.

It was a good weekend !

Cabinets look like they were made for it! Looking good

Looks like you got it, we only ended up with a heavy dusting, but it's started coming down again this morning so who knows? :snow
