Best way to seal windows/roof vents/door casings

What is a good way to seal these things? Some type of tape? Any specific brand? Caulking?

As mentoned before, butyl tape will work.
I've used it in certain areas.
I use OSI QUAD available at Home Depot.
It sticks to aluminum very well.

+1 on the OSI Quad. I also used 3M 4200 but you have to order online unless you happen to be near a marine supply store.

Just bought a tube of OSI Quad today @ $5.98 a tube + tax :BE .
They sure beat you up on the price of petroleum based products lately.

I see OSI Quad as a caulking when I look it up. Does it also come as a tape? If you use the caulking form, do you simply run a thick bead around all edges of the window before screwing down?

fixing a hole in the roof

I got a little carried away with the rivets, but make sure you mask off the area that you don't want to get any caulk on.

Pro Flex RV sealant, remains flexible, $10 a tube online. Used by most manufacturers.

So I have never used butyl tape...any tips on applying it? Is it as easy as rolling it out and pulling off the backing? And how much space does it take up under the trim?

It comes in various widths. It is real easy to apply. All I did was take off the backing as I applied it to my windows and vent fan. Then I just screwed down the windows and fan and it sealed just fine. After that I pressed down the butyl tape that oozed out of under the window frame to make it look nice and professional.

Did you use only the tape? Or did you also use caulking on the screws and screw holes?
