Jack , don'’t want to do that again :frightened: .... I spent my youth working my butt off trying to make something of myself ... made it this far anyway !!! :D (touch wood)

Great ideas about the electrical conduit , table and Big flat screen TV  ... all but the last within the budget ... maybe a tiny flat screen TV ...

Thanks GH , we won’t be using one of those ...

Jack B. wrote:Electrical in - Get one of those metal or hard plastic outdoor outlet boxes with weatherproof the flaps on the outside. Mount it under the corner of choice of the floor with just a caulked hole drilled in the floor for an AC cable to come in through. Run that cable to a standard outlet box on one of the ribs and VOILA! You have shake proof, loss proof and water proof electrical connections for plug in to somebody's wall socket. You can either spend the extra money for a male socket for the under floor box or just make your own short extension cord with two male ends. Just make sure to always plug the trailer end in first as those pins will be live when the shore side power is plugged in. Not up to code, but it works. I've found that RV places will rape you for the male wall sockets but the big box stores can order one for you if they don't have them on the shelves.

Jack,
The right parts are not expensive and they won't kill you or someone you love when they plug in.

Please refrain from recommending stupidly dangerous electrical hacks to others.

Great job on the Foamstream GPW!! I have followed your build and the whole foamie phenomenon from the beginning.

I believe that if you re-read the entry you'll find that I DID NOT RECOMMEND doing anything other than an alternative method of getting electricity into the trailer. In fact I pointed out the hazards of the WRONG METHOD. And you might also notice that I even tell why, how and where to get the CORRECT parts to use.

Make sure to read everything, in context, before offering condemnation. There are those who might say that building with foam and gluing it to plywood with paint and canvas might be irresponsible. And yet, here we are suggesting just such actions.

Regardless of whether you think it was just an alternative method or some great money saving idea, it is stupidly unsafe.

A safe alternative would be cut the male end off the cord and attach it, in the box under the trailer. Then plug a standard extension cord into it.
Or
just spend the $10 and buy the right part -> http://www.amazon.com/Leviton-4937-Weatherproof-Wallplate-Receptacle/dp/B00074USHY/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1380671122&sr=8-8&keywords=15a+125v+inlet

Sorry if you feel I am too harsh, but public forums do not need recklessly unsafe electrical advice from hacks, even if it is hidden as a non recommendation.

Being also a Tube amplifier builder and tech , I’m well aware of the Dangers of electricity (400V + ) ... Which is why I decided to go the Simple route . ;) Also trying to eliminate the “RV influence” ... and trying to treat the FS more like a "Hard Tent" ... The less we build in , the less to go wrong ... just a personal preference .... And it allows for quick and easy replacement on the road if necessary ... “ Plug in and play" so to speak ...
What I really need to find is a reliable plug in GFI device ... Any recommendations ... ??? My first TD, the wooden one , had a home GFI built in , and that seemed to work well ... and we could do that ...but I just thought the plug in GFI would be simpler to use ... or replace if needed ...
That and the whole electrical system will live Inside the house or Studio , and not out in the relatively High local Humidity ... :rainy:

Just my personal preference ... The whole idea is to keep the FS as SIMPLE as possible ... We’ve had RV “complicated" in the past ... didn’t care for that ...

GPW I like that Idea, there are only three ways I will use 120 , plug in the air conditioner, charge my phone and tablet, and maybe a heating blanket or pad. I only have to have two sockets at the max. I like the idea of an in line GFI . I don't want to be lectrocuted :fb and I want my tablet and phone to work :frustrated: and I don't want to Freeze :snow or get too hot :sweaty:

Yeah Mary , we only plan on running the AC really, or maybe a fan , laptop charger ... we have solar panels, lights , battery radio ,solar cooker(s). There is a Mr. Coffee and small toaster oven , which will see limited use ... not likely used in practice camping ...
Just trying to keep this SIMPLE and Light ( I can’t say that enough eh ! ) ... especially for Old people like me ... LESS is More !!! I can always Add things ... later ... if needed ...

Since we were mentioning black lights a while ago, can we also include tie dyed t-shirts, bell bottom jeans and platform shoes?  8)

How about velvet suits and wide brimmed hats (with the required ostrich feather)?

Although there are many “possibilities” for decorating , we’re just going to keep this "as is" for now ... Wide open spaces  ... without having camped in it yet , we really don’t know what we really need and where to put it ... :NC Right now we have all the ”camping /evac" gear in our “storage/laundry) room (house)... Trying to organize all that into a couple big plastic bins that I can quickly load into the truck or trailer ...
The weather is getting much cooler .. <90F  ... so "practice camping" will happen shortly ... Then we can better determine what’s what .. and provide an accurate report ... ;)
