Washington Build Code name Gumdrop

Postby Lambertdarr » Sat Nov 15, 2014 6:41 pm

I have started my build from scratch and so far it has been going well. I have a good start on things and appreciate any comments or suggestions. I am still in the structural phase so I can still implement any hair brained ideas anyone has. I am a hobbyist woodworker that loves a challenge!!!

Does anyone know why only the first 3 pictures show up as images in the post and the rest are links?

I use photobucket & enter the actual image link in a thread. Your images with links are web addresses (http.....) not the image files. Look at the "sharing" part you've posed from and see if there isn't a different type of link to use from the menu choices.

I looked at your gallery and now I wonder what your plan is for venting
humidity. We blow out a lot of moisture with our breath that needs
some relieving.

The window and the door both have sliding windows. I am also planning on framing in for a roof vent and assess if the ventilation is insufficient. I imagine I will end up putting in a fantastic fan

That is looking very fine, indeed!

Just a heads up. Did you build the vent fan frame to match the screw pattern of a known fan? Despite the 14 inch standard size, and most people suggesting a 14-3/8 to 14-1/2 inch rough opening, what I found on my Maxx Vent brand fan is that the factory screw hole pattern is a bit wider still. This prompted me to use 2x2 surrounding my fan. you may want to take a closer look at this now, if you haven't already, to make sure that your vent fan screws will find wood.

I'm not familiar with other fan options. I suppose some do not come with the holes already in them, but if they do it would be worth looking into. 1x on edge isn't really a very big target.

Again, you are doing very nice work there!

I just installed mine with 1x4" pine boards in a 14 1/2 x. 14 1/2 inch square. And I just noticed that two screws missed the wood frame. Darn. No leaks however. I will reinstall those two screws with a slight angle so as to install into the wood.

So I agree. Use wider boards.

So, after finally figuring out how to do the water tank I have been able to complete the framing out of the upper cabinet along with the roof to that point. I have the hurricane hinge installed on the roof side just to see if it would fit properly!! The fridge is in and wired the counter raises up there for access inside. I cut a panel to hide it and keep it looking classy! I have to do the cherry veneer which i should start soon but wanted to get as much as possible done so that I could do all the veneer at once! After that it is the trim work and figuring out how I want to stain and seal all of it!! I have not figured out exactly where I am going to put the 12 volt ports, the 115 volt plug and the light switches

 Sweet looking Bennie! KC gave you good advice on the framework for the Fantastic Fan. I assume you've got it wired too? (The wires should be available at about the 10 o'clock position on the fan, looking from the galley.)

I like your galley. For the water, how do you easily replace the 5 gal. container when empty? It appears you have added a connection/pipe to the bottom of it. Is the downpipe flexibe which allows you to maybe turn the container sidways as you screw on the connector?

I did add the extra width for the fan but I have not installed it. I just framed it in and covered it up. I figure I will install it the first night we sleep in it and it ends up being the amazon rain forest inside the Drop but right now I am under the misconception that I will be able to manage the moisture with 2 windows
