Gaston...wow!!!...and what a slick approach to fenders for that molded in look....did you have some sort of pattern or just cook up your own design...taillight recesses too, at least that's what I think that spot is on the rear top of the fender.......really nice!!! Doug

Chucklehead,

There you go, the ultimate in glasswork on a custom Teardrop. When you started this thread it made me think of Gaston, and I was wondering how his project was going. Gaston, that is really cool, you are an artist in your own right.

Hi Doug
No pattern I just glued up a stack of foam and sanded off anything that did'nt look like the fender I had in mind. The fender is easy compaired to making the compound curve PT Cruiser taillamps fit!! then all I had to do was make a mirror inage for the other side. glue it to the foam sides and start glassing. nothing to it :?

Hello Gaston
How compatible is the pink Styrofoam insulation and the epoxy fiberglass?
From what I understand the fiberglass resin will attack the styrofoam, if it makes contact.
I would hate to see anything bad happen to those fenders.

most all the insulation foams are ok with epoxy resin but it drives the price of the build way up there!! if You can find the tan urethane foam you can use polyester resin (much cheaper) but the urethane foam "dusts" (the outer layer of particles come off in shear and the glass doesn't adhear well)... And NO I'm not taking orders. This is a "one off" proof of concept . The finished cost will be around $5000 (at least thats my budget) and the man hours are priceless :? About 50 hrs per side so far
BUT I'll tell you how to build one it you want to try it

Oh bummer!

I really wanted to buy one of those...

I will wait for your build journal so everyone can have the procedure/methods.

Thanks!

Hi CH69, Welcome to the forum. Great to see yet another rough wheeler on board. I've built a modified Benroy Offroad design but do have 31x10x15 wheels and tyres fitted to it. Check my album for pics to give you an idea of what BIG wheels will look like on yours. When matching your vehicle you will find that they look huge on the trailer. My number 2 will have slightly smaller fitted.
Cheers
Paul
