Silicone sealant???? Madjack/Grant any one!!!!

I need to know what silicone sealant or other stuff to use on/around my roof vent /door/windows? HELP!!!!

Use a good grade silicone designed for aluminum and/or metal. (GE Silicone II). Should be gray in color and looks like it has metal particles in it. Use liberally and if it oozes out, let it set up/dry FIRST, then remove the excess. Don't forget to dip the screw thread in it for a good seal.

There's also another product that is used in roofing, commercial roofing mostly, called Geocel. It is fantastic! I have several tubes here at the house that I will probably use when I get my tear underway.

By the way, I would mention that I've thrown in my two cents, a la MadJack. However, I've recently been informed by my wife that I can't have my two cents yet! I haven't earned enough! :lol:

...having had issues in the past with silicone, I don't recommend it...some other options...1) auto windshield sealant/adhesive(my present preference) 2) butyl tape...this is the grey "putty inna tape" that is used almost universally in the commercial RV or 2) something like SikaFlex221/252 ...these are urethane sealers and there are other brands on the market.....

A tip for using caulk:

Learned this watching a guy install granite counter tops.

Use Painters Tape to keep the caulk off where you don't want it to go.

While the caulk is still wet, remove the painters tape. Nice clean line with little or no clean up. This handles squeeze out (apply the tape to the molding line before installation) as well as caulking molding already in place.

I used silcone seal everywhere on my trailer...the aluminum colored stuff from the box store. Other than having to return one bad tube for credit (it was hardened in the tube), I've had no problems whatsoever in going on three years of use.

Silicone holds pretty well, but I find that it will peel right off if you tug at it. It seals well, but doesn't bind real good. I have to maintain my silicone annually.
