Floor/trailer

saw plans on fleabayfor a trailer using only 4x8 sheet of 3/4 plywood with trailer tongue and springs mounted directly to plywood. How sturdy is this, and has anyone else tried it?

Not me! - Sound a little flimsy to me - no saying that it wouldn't work, but i wouldn't want to try it

Well, the Pico Lite is the same way and it's sturdy

As I read the question - it sounded like the Springs are mounted directly to the plywood instead of a some type of framework - is that right Boanerges4?

no frame just mounted to plywood. Plans are on ebay. I could understand if it had a 2x4 frame out of wood, but basically all that supports the plywood from sagging is the side walls.

I don't see the tongue being connected directly to plywood...

In any case, you NEED a metal trailer frame below the trailer itself. The smallest frame so far is the Pico, which Ageless pointed out earlier.

You don't need a wood frame below your plywood baseboards, unless you want one. My build is on a camper frame, so there is plenty of support from the metal that makes a wood frame below the plywood unnecessary.

I inherited my grandpa's "Handyman's Encyclopedia" Copyright 1965.

You wouldn't believe some of the crazy trailer designs they have in there. An entire trailer built out of wood, and the axle is made out of a piece of pipe with spindles hammereed into it, no springs. There is a coment below the build plans that says it tracks well at 65mph with a 1 Ton load on it.
