Its funny how things happen. Its a long story but I was frustrated and complaining on another site and someone saw and recognized my pain and invited me to camp-cook. Love the site. I cook and bake, now in black pots. My wife and I have been talking about a trailer to take camping. We have 3 kids and lots of gear. We were thinking utility trailer which morphed into cargo trailer and now I am here, poking and nosing about.

I got very excited knowing that a teardrop could be built on a Harbor Freight base. That was a few minutes ago. I suppose there are pro's and con's so I am here to gather information and meet a few folks.

Howdy Redneck. I know where you are coming from. I was raised in Bothell. We only have one little dude and our Teardrop makes things a heck of a lot easier.

Hi there! We just got our Little Guy 5- Wide last weekend and we live in Seattle. I am a newbie too and this forum is great! Reading all the posts about cast iron has finally got to me...I picked up a large lodge skillet and a small fajita type pan at the Goodwill this week. No matter where you go on this forum, its addictive! Welcome! :D

Igna70, Thanks for the reply. I looked at the little guy and thought it was a very nice little rig. I just started looking at tear drops and have not made up my mind as to whether I want to build or buy. Both have their challenges.

I noticed that there was no little guy dealer in Washington. Where did you go to get yours?

Sorry for the late reply, its been soo busy at work...and frankly, we are camping fools now! We went to George Sutton RV in Eugene Oregon as we couldnt find anything in Wa state we wanted. There is another dealer in Idaho called Happy Trails Rv and I believe they just got a new bunch in. We had a real good expereince with George Sutton. Either way, we are planning our next camping adventure to Lake Cushman next week!

Are you looking for something like this?

I want to say that a member got one got one in the Seattle area from another car dealer. If you are really interested in a Little Guy then they are not too hard to find.

Welcome RedNeckSteverino

I'm just across the city line in Lynnwood. I grew up in MLT, Go Hawks!

I built my unit and pretty much set it up for just my wife and me. Thinking about having 3 children sharing the interior space wouldn't work very well in our 5' wide.

Before you make the big leap, take some time and check out a lot of builds on this site and manufactured units, keeping in mind how your family will be camping. I know that some people have built units with upper bunks for small children, but I don't Know how well they work over time as the kids grow up.

Whichever way you decide to go, enjoy the family time camping will provide.

Hey Buff,
We've been tent camping for lots of years and the "kids" are pretty much grown. I saw a teardrop maybe ten years ago and it made an impression since it was a really nice rig. Finding this site took a little mystery out of the "build" part and I am just investigating for now. I don't really have a place to build and this is not the season to begin an outdoor project. The owner built units look really nice but there is convenience in a ready made. I haven't decided one way or the other. I am just gathering information. There is lots to see here and I am not even sure which design appeals to me.
I would like to know how many tears are built by first-time-never-built-anything-before guys. Is there a step by step guide of any sort or just blueprints here you go plans. Finances always seem to be a factor and I would kind of like to know what to expect. Maybe that's like asking how much does a car cost.
Bottom line is that this site has piqued my interest in teardrops. Not only are the trailers themselves appealing but the cammaraderie among the participants is another draw. I like to camp, eat well and laugh. Which seem to be common themes.
Thanks for the welcome I look forward to spending time here.

Hi Steve,
If your kids are grown enough to be in tents or are about out of the house, a Teardrop might not be a bad way to go for you.

We had a tent trailer while our kids were growing up, and that was a great cost/space efficient way for us to camp.

With the kids out of the house, we didn't need the extra interior or sleeping space. The Tear makes sense for us because:
1. we like having the sleeping compartment always ready to use, even for a nap or grand-daughter sleepover.
2. we like having the galley fully stocked with all of the pots, pans, and utensils. We just have to add fresh food and we are off.
3. we like camping. Teardroping is just stylish tent camping. If it rains, you have to pretty much deal with it just like tent camping, except your bed will be off the ground, dry and cosy.

If you would like to talk some more, PM me so we can trade contact info. It's probably more productive to actually talk, than to keep this string going.

As for your remark concerning the comradery of the people involved with this forum, it's dead-on. The people we have met and talked to while building and using our teardrop have all been incredibly open and welcoming. Going to a Gathering is like going to a family reunion with "Kin" you just haven't met yet.

Enjoy your future camping. whichever way you go about doing it.
