That sounds really good! So you'll have the run of the place from the time you get there, Doug! Fair warning (from when I hosted a wine and cheese at a Hoosier gathering this summer) if it's at the traditional cocktail hour, people arrive VERY HUNGRY. Some will have just pulled in.

At the one I hosted, I had told everybody to bring either a bottle of wine or a snack, but when hordes arrived (40? 50?) I got a bit worried. Fortunately some people brought both wine and snacks--we had a huge group of fun and hungry Hoosiers.

Maybe I can hunt up Bob Henry's recipe for "Apple Pie," which is a delicious but potent beverage. I'll have to see how involved it is to make.

Apple Pie

Prep Time: 10 mins
Total Time: 25 mins
Servings: 50
About This Recipe
"This recipe is from a friend and has been passed around campfires often with eager anticipation. It is a very sweet and smooth alcoholic drink that is perfect for cool autumn evenings."
Ingredients
1 gallon apple cider
1/2 gallon apple juice
2 cups sugar
5 cinnamon sticks
2 cups Everclear alcohol
Directions
Heat first three ingredients to dissolve sugar.
Once it has cooled, add 2 C. Everclear.

Bob Henry subbed 1/2 brown sugar for the sugar and added 1/4 tsp of each nutmeg, ginger and clove. 5-6 cinnamon sticks if you have time to let it age (3-4 weeks refrigerated) if not add powdered cinnamon 1/2 tsp

We are going to try and make it.

We are hoping to make it this year. Last year the tear wasn't completed, but it has survived camping all last summer. A bottle or two of our homemade apple wine, and maybe a bottle of our homemade Elderberry wine should go well with the other homemade beverages....

Now things are heating up....We are on our way to a great weekend! I like the Friday night get together idea. People can steam in and out as they arrive.

Thanks for the recipe, Doug--it is tasty stuff (though having me serve it will just not be the same as having Bob serve it!). I'll make a recipe of it to bring--along with snacks.

The campground is filling up. I'm going back to the south loop this year. I'm in 87.

Great looking dog Tom, he should be a fun camping buddy. Good luck with the training. Try and train him to sleep north and south in the camper. East west makes for an uncomfortable night.

Hello Everyone:

My wife & I are in. I wasn't aware of this event until Thursday night when Pat told me about it. The next morning we had our site reserved for Saturday (site 19).

Hope to have the camper done by then. I'm about 90%, maybe 95% done. I've definitely got a "final" completion date to target now.

Looking forward to our maiden run!
