There are a lot of cons to living in Southern California. Too many "rats in the cage", traffic, smog (but it's a heck of a lot better than it used to be), high taxes, liberals, to a lesser degree conservatives, illegal immigrants out the gazoo, etc, etc, etc.
However, the weather is a definite plus. I've lived in my present home for about 27 years and have used the air conditioner a half dozen times (but under protest/under duress acquiescing to my family's demands). A small fan or ceiling fan is all that is required to be comfortable in all but the very hottest weather and a fan uses about 1% of the current of a central air conditioner. One month last year my electric bill was $15 as I get a credit from the power company to allow them to turn off my a/c (which isn't on in the first place) off at will. I can go all winter w/o turning on the forced air heater, but because my wife is such a sissy we do use it for a few minutes in the morning and the evening on the coldest days of the year. A winter gas bill typically is less than $40.
The humidity here is very low so even when it's over 100 it isn't that uncomfortable.
I think I'd melt (which some, I'm sure, would be thrilled to see) if I had to live in the conditions some of you do.
Cheers,
Gus
