Dogquake!

I loaded up The Used Dog and headed west to the beach last Monday. We stayed at Cape Disappointment State Park. It is just out of Ilwaco, WA and is where Lewis and Clark became sick of the rain. :)

We had sunny weather. In fact, there was no wind, which is strange for the beach. So, the mosquitoes were out.

Well, time for the event to be discussed. My Used Dog has arthritis already and he was tired. We'd walked quite a bit, he went swimming in the bay, he retrieved sticks, he did all the normal Labrador stuff. He sleeps beside me in the Little Guy. At 2AM I was awakened by the trailer shaking. I realized it was The Used Dog, and waited for him to stop. He didn't. I turned on the light, and the poor boy was stuck. I have a slick nylon topped sleeping bag on the bed, and he seemed to have slipped so his hindquarters were lodged under the foot space, and his front feet were stuck between the mattress and the wall.

I wrapped my arms around his midsection and was able to slide all 80 pounds out. He was content and the Dogquake was over. I turned the fan back on to drown out his snoring.

Aww. Poor pupski. :)

We're thinking of getting a bloodhound. We need to check into dogquake preparedness procedures... :SG

Awwwww poor pupquaker!! Imagine having 2x 85lb golden retrievers inside in a big puppy puddle pile. It's lots of fun when the temps are cold. Just watch out when you fuel the puppy heaters with extra bacon pieces. That fantastic fan works wonders to clear the air from the dog heater sputters.

Sounds like you had a great weekend!

Great story! Dogs...don'tcha just love 'em!

I took my Golden up to the Dam one year. I always got her shaved for the summer, she loved not having the heavy coat in the heat. Well, it was a bit early, got cold and when we went to bed, she started shivering. I was 1/2 asleep and thought it was an earthquake...then it quit...then started again...I had to put her under a couple of blankets to warm her up. In the morning...she just slept in...it was the day the pic was taken for the Teardrops book. Wish she was still with me, it was the one time I was her heater instead of her being mine...Enjoy your camping buddy! Doug

I had just got this guy--a used 2 year old free to a good home after losing my 13 year old golden. I had had a Golden before that one too. The Goldens were tough. I didn't shave them. The one would be out in the snow chomping on a bone on a day when the TV Talking Heads were telling folks to keep pets indoors because it was below zero.

I took the Used Dog on our first camping trip to pick huckleberries. Friends come up and we have something similar to Elk/Deer camp except we pick berries. I took a regular dog bed for the Used Dog and took the big tent...this was pre-teardrop. He was on one side, and I was on the other so I didn't know he was cold. The next morning, he was shivering. As soon as the sun came up, he dashed into a friends tent that was in the sun and stayed in there until he warmed up. The he came out and stole that person's cookie. Not as tough as a Golden, but he's a good dog if you keep cookies out of reach.

He's had to have one repair after an accident. Did you know that dogs have arteries right smack dab on their nose? Ever try to apply direct pressure on a dog nose? Luckily, his clotting mechanism kicked in and we made it to the vet. Now he has a handsome scar. Other than that, shots, and "tutoring" I think I got an excellent deal.
