Guilty!
this was in Vancouver BC, your laws may be different but don't assume you're safe from the idiots in the legal profession if you chose to sleep it off in your car..
Sorry Folks, for seeing this late.
So, lemme get this straight : sleeping it off in the car gets you busted. Therefore sleeping it off inside the still connected Teardrop may still get you busted because you still "have access to the keys" ? Some overly zealous individual could make a case of that as well, seeing as how "Truck & Trailers" are considered as one vehicle, car & trailer as one vehicle too.
Might pay to disconnect the teardrop & park it up the drive way & not on the street.
Let's extrapolate this a little futher: You're sleeping it off on the couch, in the lounge of your host and the car ia parked 30 feet away in the drive. there's a raid (probably from a tip off) & it's discovered you're over the limit, you have the car keys in your pocket and becuase you "still have access to the keys & the vehicle" . . . . . .
Where does it stop? Oh, wait a minute. George's 1984 didn't come to pass and this IS the 21st century. . . . .
On a more serious note, hope your friend is successful in an appeal
