Kirk, everyone is forgetting something... At LCG in Louisiana we did a Coleman Light Up. You have a Coleman, right? I think you have more than one if memory serves.

Kirk has a Coleman? We better not tell him that it is lonely and would like a friend, or 2

Kirk:

While I have yet to camp during the Dam Gathering itself, I rented a cabin there one winter and have visited three of the last four gatherings, skipping the “Dampâ€

Hi Kirk, I'm a bit of a loaner, since I have been shy all of my life and talking to folks I don't know is painful. My experience at teardrop gatherings, is as follows: Perfect strangers offer to share their electrical hook-up with me just so they can bug me about my wierd trailer. Then about the time I get all set up and ready to relax, all kinds of folks actually step right into my campsite and start firing questions, right and left, about my build. Actually it got so bad, that I printed up a sign that says, "Go Away, Leave Me Alone", but to no avail. Shutting the hatch lid and closing the doors did no good either. If all gatherings are like this, why would I ever go to another? Isn't camping supposed to be a solitary event that is enjoyed alone?

Not on your life!! I am sure you understand that this is all tongue-in cheek. I love to talk to many of my old friends and look forward to making new friendships with my fellow campers. The best way to do this is to wander around and check out all of the different trailers. No two are alike, and everyone is willing to share their ideas and some have been even known to fill up my empty coffee cup. You just walk right down between trailers, right into their exposed galleys and ask questions and admire the workmanship of folks you have never met before.

I look forward to seeing you at the Dam Gathering, it is a great event and you will have a fine time. Look for me, I'll be hiding in the rig with the wooden satelite dish on the roof that is hooked up to the wooden flip-down wooden Sony plazma TV in the galley :-).

8) :? ;) Roly ~~

Wow Sharon! That's a great set of info!

Roly, shy? hrm.

Makes me sorta wish I lived on the left coast, but then I think of big earthquakes and see those nasty winds and I stay put. LOL.

Hugs,

What big earthquakes and winds??

OK...so we had a bit of a shaker in what, 89? Or was that the fire? can't remember...they were 2 years apart...

The only wind I'm aware of in at the Altamont Pass...I guess there is a wind farm on HWY 10 out there by Palm Desert on the way to the awesome city of Blythe...

Talk to Slow about wind. He's even building a teardrop gathering around the Winds of Wyoming!!

Not every part of CA has quakes. I hate to say it, but I miss them. I moved from the San Francisco area 5 years ago. No quakes here in the Sacramento area. I grew up with quakes, they are just a part of life and nothing to get too worked up about. Just when you realize it's not vertigo but a quake, it's all over. Run to the radio and listen to the news station to find out how big and where it was centered. That's about it.

And yes, I did see the Cypress structure first hand while they were still trying to get the last survivors out of the crushed cars. But I also lost many patients to the Oakland Hills fire...and fires can happen anywhere.

So give Cali a try!! Nothing too scary out here!! No hurricanes or tornadoes to speak of! And we have the best sourdough bread on earth!!

Oh, AND the best redwood trees. You haven't lived til you camp in a redwood forest!

Hey Pete, All it really was was a regular cheap square window fan and we hooked it to the middle of the top of the frame of the ez-up with bungie cords. We had the wind that comes from the fan facing the teardrop. It blew the flies/bugs away and created a really soft and nice air circulation. The ez-up could hold the weight and the vibrations weren't a problem, the cord ran along side of the teardrop so no one tripped or choked themselves. We felt so proud! ;) Will I bother to do it again??? ABSOLUTELY!!!

Bummer, Slo, your dad being sick and needing help. He is a lucky guy to have a son like you who is willing to care for him. I hope all goes well with his recovery and things return to normal. I can't imagine a farmer being shy, as you mentioned. All of those gathering attendees will be very anxious to meet you, and I wish I could make it, but that's a long ways from the Pacific Ocean.
