Hello hello,
Had some more time today to work on those doors. Skins were glued up last night and today I was able to make the cutouts for the windows and test fit them. I also fit the doors to the walls. I do not have the trim on hand so I am not sure on how much gap to leave, so I made them fairly tight, I can always trim them down later. Now I better get back to making the inner door seals.

As for the location of the fireplace I was thinking down by the foot of the bed. Nothing better than warm tootsies on a cold night. Then we can also use it as our campfire from the galley side too!

I have made a little progress over the past week, but I also took a step backwards. When I cut out the hatch side from the wall I realized too late that I had cut too far. In the picture you can see where the hatch would bind with the wall as it tries swing past it. I am going to experiment but I will most likely cut the hatch side and glue the lower portion back onto the wall. I have only cut one side so far, so the other side I can plan where to stop the cut. It will mean that the final hatch will have a jog in it at the outer bottom edges. Maybe I'll put some lights there and then it will look intentional.

I also worked on the bulkhead that separates the galley from the berth. The upper portion of the wall will be the front of the upper galley cabinets. To keep these cabinets light and simple I cut kerfs directly into the rails to accept two sliding doors. In the picture is the cooler that I plan to use, it looks like my measurements were correct for that at least.

I will have more chance to work on the teardrop on Tuesday, so I hope to post more pics again soon.

I added some hardware last night after work to the sliding doors. The doors are only 1/4" thick so I needed to add a support block in behind. I also planed the bottom into a slight concave shape so the doors slide easier. They work quite well, just need a little wax and they should be pretty smooth. Now I just need to add a cleat on either end of the bulk-wall to match into a slot that is in each side wall. This should make standing the walls up pretty easy... I hope. I am going to leave the bulk-wall un-skinned to facilitate running wires later. I'll cut and pre-finish some ply and use glue and a pin nailer to attach them later.

Well this is my only day to work on the tear this week, so I better get at it.

Well I was able to get a few things done today. I added the cleats to either side of the bulkhead wall, these will slide into grooves in the side walls. I also cut out the hatch side from the other side wall. I decided to cut it short to avoid the binding issue. I cut off a similar chunk from the other side to match and re attached it to the side wall. I'll know better next time. I will be adding another layer of ply over the side walls so the patch will be strengthened and hidden. In preparation for standing the walls up I drilled pocket holes along the bottom of the wall as well as next to where the bulkhead will sit.

Then it was time to start finishing. I sanded, stained, & varnished the side walls, doors, bulkhead wall, and sliding cabinet doors. I'll need to do a few more coats of varnish, then I plan to start sealing the edges with S1 epoxy sealer. I'll build the rest of the cabinets once the walls are up.

No new pics to post, but I have been getting some work done. I varnished the insides of the walls, doors and rear bulk head with four coats of a semi-gloss clear. I also bolted the floor to the trailer frame and made a cabinet frame. This frame that I just built will be out headboard / front cabinet. It will be installed at a 20° angle to make it comfortable for reading in bed. The top will have a small shelf and the fronts will be cushioned doors to allow access into the cabinet. Finally I started using a two part epoxy sealer on the the bottom edges of the walls. All is looking good for standing up the walls by mid week! I am really looking forward to that!

Today's the day! The walls are about to go up!

I laid the floor this morning after using some epoxy sealer on the bare wood. I will post some pics when things are standing up.

Both walls are up and supported by two bulkheads. Today I can get to work on more of the interior cabinets. It sure is a good feeling to have something more than a collection of parts. I was able to test fit the bed too... And I fit!

Time to head back to the shop...

Now that the walls are up I have started to work on the interior. I am building the cabinets using simple frames and cleats. Later I'll pre-finish ply panels to make the shelves and dividers. Today I think I'll work on the galley and a small cabinet for the stereo.

Lookin good, great feeling when the walls go up.
Makes ya feel like ya actually did something.
I hate lookin at parts. Kinda a instant gratification sort of guy, I buy it, I gotta get it up....NOW!!!
