You're probably seeing 50cc scoots. Top end speed is around 45. Top end speed for my bike is 65. That does not include, nor require a tow rope attached to a semi.
At a light I'm off the line faster than most cars. Years ago I owned a Kawasaki 550. It was heavy. Honestly at 65 or 70 it felt like it was giving everything it had. My Buddy weighs in at 220. With that said, it's light weight keeps me away from busy highways. The interstate with its large trucks is a no no. The wind off them will blow me around. I enjoy old highways that run beside the major thourogh fares. Much more scenic any way.
If I wanted to spend more time on highways I would probably invest in a Honda Silverwing scooter. Top speed is reported to be 105.
