There was a '53 Kampmaster at the DAM Gathering this last May. I'll try to find the photos to post. They are photos #88 & 89 in my DAM Gathering Gallery http://www.charleslwebster.com/2012_dam_gathering/

That one belongs to Mike & Patty Smith of Reno, NV. And if I'm not mistaken the Kampmaster is only 6 feet wide. Here's an interior shot.

Slow, be sure to recheck the frame width. Even though the bed might be 7' wide in most cases the frame was only 6' wide max.

My immediate thought was your post concerning the -2 temperature. Any trailer with canvas and no insulation strikes me as a less than optimal idea considering where you live. Show your intended the pictures of the other expandable options and ask why this is attractive. One of the advantages of the grasshopper design is a galley you do not have to lean over to get to. Lots of interior space and storage.

Check out the Army Goose in the foamie section: viewtopic.php?f=55&t=49879 . It is kind of a Wild Goose/Winter Warrior combination. I don't remember all the stats, but it might be close to what you are looking to build.

Slow - you might want to also look at the ladybug as well - it has solid walls and is insulated. We even camped in it through a winter storm. we woke up in the morning and the whole thing was covered in ICE!

Mike/Slow,

This is from the "Design Resources" in the forum's header page. It is
Andrew's take on the Kampmaster. It should have most of the basic
info you'd need to plan/build it. Note: You can download the design at
the bottom of the page in a CAD file format or a PDF file format:

Mike/slow,

Just came across this Aussie take on the Kampmaster style from 1948:

Mike/slow,

I thought the separate beds might possibly be an issue ! Ha !

Maybe you could adapt the Aussie version, as it is a little smaller
in size. One thing you could do would be to make the front bed
be a daytime couch that'd fold down to a queen size bed at might.
This could be done either by splitting the galley area into two units,
having one on each side as opposed to the just one side as is.
Or, keep the floor plan as is, but split the galley into two pieces,
in the "middle" lengthwise/horizontally, with the bottom 'half' being
the same height as the bed/couch base is, so that you can thus use
part of the galley base as the part of the queen bed base at night,
and the top 'half' of the lengthwise split galley can be/act like a
chuck box or an out side portable kitchen top. Just make that
into a couple of sections so that it wouldn't be too heavy or
awkward to take in and out. Or, just make the half of the top split galley,
by the couch/bed, lift off and be placed on the seat area
opposite the galley at night, thus allowing part of the galley base
to be used for the queen sized bed at night but most of the galley
would still be in place at night too.

'Just an idea for consideration as a way you could approach it.

Cheers,

Well, I'll tell you and be quite honest about it. I REALLY value my quiet at night, and I am way hard of hearing too. Plus the winter angle. So, while I really dig the lay out of the army goose floor plan, I also really would want to stick very closely by the winter warrior seal idea and cozy-ness. So I myself would prefer the tip up solid sides, verses the canvas...

On the front bed, too, yup love the couch into a queen, just move the back piece into the leg space and you have a queen sized bed. I did notice one of those pictures had a bunk arrangement in the front that could be hinge the back of the couch UP to make the upper bunk... But that would be for a family situation, with kids everywhere. I like the 7 foot wide idea. mostly because mine was built on a 4'x8' piece and with the "medicine cabinet" type "cabinet/storage in the stud walls" of mine, I am down to just over 3 feet in interior width. Tight for one. I need a skinny mate that is not afraid of small spaces...

My height is not bad, puptent on wheels. What is in between a standie and a crawlie? I'd like to be vertical to pull up my britches, even if I am half bent over at the middle to do it.

One last thing, too. As a person with a door only at the back end, I'd rather wish for a side door, exactly like the standard tear, also. I don't know how close to the top roof the stove etc... will be, when closed, but if you leave the top closed on an army goose for the winter, with a side door like the teardrop, that might be a good winter style, and then open the back's top and let the air through the fabric, for the summer.
(since you still in design phase, I wanted to throw all the pertinent variables at you while the getting was good... With that much width I'd even consider two standard tear doors AND the winter warrior tip up rear... all in 2 inch foam walls, to be ultra light.
