Neighbors are REALLY helpful people to have!

Postby indycamper » Wed Dec 05, 2012 9:34 pm

Ever since I got back from vacation two weeks ago I've been planning on getting Gertrude into the garage. Using Heathcliff (the TV) would involve moving her up the drive, then backing her while making a 90 degree turn across 20 feet of drive into a garage space with about 2 inches clearance on each side. And the edge of the drive is smack up against the neighbor's garage! I decided using Heathcliff was not an option. Gertrude would have to be pushed into position, and she is a BIG teardrop who tips the scales at about 2500 pounds! So I have been procrastinating.

Today I realized that I had best get her in, as the weather is supposed to get crappy the rest of the week / weekend. I bundled up, went out, and started tugging her along the drive. It worked! At least as far as getting her up the drive and turned around so that her galley was pointed toward the garage. But I could not get her moving backwards toward the garage for love nor money. :( No matter how much I tried to move her, she would not budge. I gave up and headed next door to see if the neighbor would lend assistance. DIdn't get very far, though, as she had seen me from her upstairs window and come out to lend a hand!

We two gals, with the assistance of another neighbor out walking his dogs, got her into the garage, squared up nicely, and ready for whatever modifications I decide she needs over the winter! I just LOVE neighbors! :applause: :applause:

yes they are glad ya'all got it under cover.
I've lived in this house since 1974.
I'v had some rotten neighbors and I've had some good neighbors
the worst was a preacher and his wife and kids all brats I had to keep an eye on my mailbox
the ones I have now are some of the best one who has 3 small kids who sells me school stuff
like tulip bulbs, I get her back I make her plant them for me.
the other neighbor cleans my eve troughts of leaves and climbs the ladder to fix my front garage door.
yep good neighbors are helpful.

My single Harley gal next door is a gem. If I see her out I invite her over for a wine cooler. On one such afternoon shortly after singlehood had arrived for me , she was bemoaning the fact she was having trouble finding a "Good guy" I immediatly asked her if she had my number, (implying phone number). Without missing a beat she replied " I had your NUMBER the day I moved in" I don't think she was talking about my phone number. :laughter:

But several times a year I find she has trespassed and mowed my lawn while she had her riding mower out. Gotta luv her !

On the other side is Tommy. Some of you have seen him up on the roof of the caboose giving me a hand screwing down the plywood sub sheeting. He invites me to all his cook outs
and appears at my back door when he runs out of beer on a hot Sunday afternoon or maybe looking for a stray tool but he is a great neighbor also.
Growing older but not up !

My good neighbor Dale always stopped (and still does) when I was building my l'il camper. He makes sure to keep the Mt. Dew's from going stale in the garage fridge. He also donated several key parts for the camper build; windows, inverters, sink, advice, etc.

We get along good, we're both "scrappers" (salvage type, not fighters) and he comes by just to visit. Seems like nobody else stops unless the WANT something or want me to fix something. (and they get demanding too, what do they want for nothing $ ?)

I like "jacking" with him too! For his birthday this year I got him a card, put fancy writting on the outside to: "My Dearest Darling Dale", sprayed cheap perfume on it, had one of the nurses seal it with lipstick and stuck it in his mail box. He said at first he paniced when he took it out of the box. :frightened:  He was afraid his neighbor put it in there (the wild woman next door)

Glad your neighbors were helpful.

I like hearing good neighbor stories. Mine personify the saying that "good fences make good neighbors". This summer their bulldog attacked our dalmatian AND my wife! No apologies, no "how are you", just left her bleeding in the back yard trying to comfort out dog and our kids.

Everyone who has good neighbors, please tell them how much you appreciate them. It could be much worse.

owning a house two states away that I am trying to sell, I am very glad to have good neighbors. last monday I did some work on the plumbing, after I was done and the water was back on I saw no leaks and figured out it was all fine. tuesday afternoon I get a call from my next door neighbor "hey I was just checking on your house and noticed water is coming out of the vent on the top of your outdoor pellet boiler". I had to talk him through how to get into the house, and then find the correct valve in the basement that turns off the valve to fill the pellet boiler, then have him go outside and drain the boiler again so it doesn't freeze and burst. He was glad to do it, and I was so glad he noticed, a two week water bill for leaving the water running  would have bee horrible.

I heard someone outside just now by my front garage
when I looked out the next door neighbor was pushing the snow from my drive.
we only got about 2 inches but now I can get out no problem car or truck.

When my neighbors moved in 4 years ago, they made me a great deal....if I allow them to store my snowblower in their garage during the winter, I'll never have to use it on my driveway  Their almost 19 year old and 15 year old sons, and the mother took care of both of our driveways two times today. Nothing like seeing pavement with 12" of snow on the ground :D They've helped me remodel my bathroom, and they're always just a phone call away. After having the neighbors from he!! for 15 years in that house, it's so pleasant having such good neighbors!!!!!

Here in Utah it snowed bout eight inches yesterday,,,,when I got home from work and tried to bully my way up the driveway with a two wheel drive ranger, I had to give up and shovel. After that and about getting stuck in the street,,,I mad a few more attempts up the drive,,,,no traction at all....My neighbor across the street let me park in her(flat) driveway for the nite. When I came home today after anothere nite of snow I found my driveway shoveled, salted, and useable....some neighbors are really great.... tomorrow I'm going to Home Depot for about 200 pounds of sand for the back of the truck, and a bunch of icemelt....and some flowers for my neighbor....
If you see my harley on a trailer,,,,call the police cause it's being stolen...

I have great neighbors on either side of my house, but across the street they have 6 vehicles. Two pickup trucks, a Suburbon, a broken down Bronco, a Ford Taures and a large box truck he uses for work. I know the street is available for parking but do they really have to park in front of my house so only on car can park. There is enough room for two vehicles but they rarely park to accomodate that. It is just down right rude to be such a nucence :x

We have had some really good neighbors now and in the past. We don't have the weather issues but when we leave town for a few days, my newspapers are always at my back door. He is a retired Sheriff and always watches the house for us. Nice! When we cook desserts in the dutch oven they usually get at least half of it. A pretty good trade.
