I have been debating a margaritaville theme with a teal frame and parrots on the side, but ill likely chicken out and just do it plain.

Re: What's Your Trailer Theme?

Postby Roly Nelson » Thu Dec 27, 2012 1:29 am

I've been trying to keep it a secret, but my theme for my teardrop trailer is All Wood! 10 years ago, not having seen but one TD, I decided to design and construct one made entirely out of wood. I got the cheapest 1/4" plywood that Lowes sells and a bunch of white pine boards and went to work. No metal can be seen on my rig, since it has a hand-carved wooden tongue, wooden hitch with wooden safety chain, a wooden camel-back trunk for the AC, wooden spoked wheels, wooden fenders, wooden windows with wooden dowels for holding them open, wooden doors with wooden handles, wooden drip moldings over the doors, wooden plugs to hide all screws, wooden lower falsework to hide metal HF frame, wooden bumper, wooden hand-turned Model A style tail lights, hand carved license plate frame, wooden TD shaped clearance lights and wooden fold-away landau bars to hold up the hatch lid.

Then, since it looked so plain, I added a wooden satelite dish on the roof connected to a wooden flip-down Sony plazma TV, (which gets great Woodpecker and Pinochio videos), a wooden 2-slice pop-up toaster, a lathe-turned wooden percolator coffee pot, a wooden dutch oven, a wooden papertowel holder, a one-place setting of wooden plate, cup and saucer, fork, knife, spoon and napkin holder, a wooden countertop and removable clamp-on wooden table, wooden knots for cabinet pulls, wooden roof vent, a number of wooden hand carved mustache overlays to cover dumb mistakes made during building, and last of all.........a mattress and pillow filled with left-over sawdust and wood shavings......(Just kidding about that last one).
:? 8) :DOH2: Roly....I wooden think of anything else I wooden want to add to it, wooden you?

How about "Outdoorsy" or "Nature" or "Wilderness" or "Woodsy", you make the call.

Not certain if there really is a theme, but there is a lot of Mickey Mouse stuff in and about Gertrude! :D

I'm not entirely certain, but I THINK I am going to base at least the outside theme on my father's B29 bomber "Hell's Belle". He and his crew (he was flight engineer) flew this aircraft from California to Saipan and he flew several missions, including the first on Tokyo after Doolittle's raiders. During a period between missions it was assigned to another crew and they had a very interesting flight, got all shot up and barely returned, crash landing back at the base. All survived but the aircraft was not repaired until much later in the war. The tail insignia was Z Square 7 and there was a book written about that mission. Pop flew a total of 35 missions in numerous other B29's but that was the one he always thought of as his.

I suspect that the reason there was no pinup on the nose was my father's influence as he was a rather devout man.
He told of the time when some top brass's wife was visiting and all the art had to go, to be replaced with what I think is referred to the ball and spear (yellow) with the plane's name in it. So some combination of those symbols are probably where I'm heading...

Here's the ball and spear on another plane, picture it in a rather bright yellow!

It started with a piece of glass we bought as a keepsake when we brought our trailer home after buying it in Idaho. It looked like tie-dye so we went with a retro hippie thing.

We call ours The Rambler but the theme just kind of progressed. I guess we reached the finish line with it and declared it a winner. At least it is for us. The floor is also checkerboard and the table has a checkerboard on it. There will probably be more although I can't Imagine where.
