Brad,
Just love the interior of your TD. It is a lot bigger than I envisioned.

With that big TV and all those books you'll never get bored in the woods... :R

Gave this a try today, smooth as a baby's butt. Then I put another coat of varnish on. I'll be danged if there weren't dust specks all over again! I'll wait for it to dry and hit it with some 400 grit wet then clean it up with a little mineral spirits. That ought to be fine. Thanks for the tip, it definitely helps to keep the sandpaper from gumming up.

Sounds like dust in the air.
Close the doors and run an air cleaner for a while...

Bad idea....Those dust caps aren't designed to hold anything on but themselves, they seem real tight but a little vibration and a few good bumps and they'd likely pop out. Someone found clips that you can mount to your wheels and snap the hub caps onto...much better idea.

I agree, the clips would be a better solution if I could find them. I'll look around some more...if anyone out there knows where to find them, let me know!

Brad Hello! Im new here and am just starting to build. This is really fun so far. Some things just seem like a scavanger hunt. Anyway I want to use moons on my wheels and so if you find a source for those clips let me know. I have some little dimples on my wheels but im not sure if its for caps. Good luck! :moom walk:

For regular baby moons purchased at autozone, you can do what George did (tap round head screws into the wheel to give the clip something to hook onto):

I don't think that application will work in my case because there is no give (or clip) in the back of the cap. Have fun with your build!

Not a lot of news to report, but I've skinned the outer side of the walls and am ready to hook 'em on. Hopefully by this time tomorrow we'll have walls up!

Here's one of our latest diversions: a 1967 Vespa scooter picked up at a local estate auction. As fate would have it, it turns out that it's the same one my uncle rode on as a high school kid (his friend owned it at the time). It hadn't been started in 25 years, but with relatively little tinkering we got it running for a little bit.

YAY.....I HAVE A TEARDROP! Or, at least it finally looks a little bit like a teardrop. After spending lots of time working on separate pieces, today many of those pieces came together.

To keep the bubble level:

Image
Sides up, bulkheads in, spars in! Bulkheads made of pine salvaged from the barn, glued and biscuited. Spars are good, clear poplar which I found fantastic to work with. It's a great medium when you want a light paintable wood that's stronger than pine/fir and lighter/cheaper than a hardwood.

Image
My friend Tommy from church put in a few hours of working today...thanks Tommy!

Image
Grandpa seems surprised it's going this well!

Image
It even makes Grandma smile!

Image
Rear bulkhead (with oak header) and galley area.

Image
Vent location framed in. I may have to double up those spars depending on the width of the vent flange.

Image
Gratuitous clampage!

I'm pretty excited to have made this progress today...June is looming closer and closer. My $15 check has been sent, so we're committed to ITG3.

Are these clips what you were thinking of? Perhaps they would work?
