I just did the heat gun/scraper thing on mine. Just don't overheat and it's pretty easy. Someone gave the tip (afterward), that I should have used a chunk of wood as a scraper, and that would have taken the adhesive with it. Instead, once the decals were gone, I tried:
GoofOff (took paint and swirled it),
GooGone (took off the paint),
WD40 (didn't do much of anything),
and Xylene (also took the paint off, but completely off)
Since the Xylene is cheaper in gallon cans, I just used it. You'll need a good aluminum primer for afterward.
