Got the rest of the LED's wired up!!
And finally for this evening, I finalized the side "porch lights." The color of the side lights is controlled using 3 dials, and can be changed to whatever color blend I want.

What happens in the red-light district (or red-cup district at some campgrounds) stays in the red-light district!

Thanks!

The old teardrop had some... just not nearly enough!! 8)

Got a little work done this weekend, but took some time off of the build to finally get some snowboarding in! PA sucks for snowboarding, but its better than nothing.

I posted a pic last time, but here are the wires that I was having oak "covers" made for.

Image

And here are the oak covers after two coats of spar urethane. They'll just be held in place with some #6 SS screws, in case I ever need access to the wires again.

Image

My friend and I also started painting the exterior. Only have the white areas painted so far, so there was no need to take a pic.

But... today is a big day!! Ordering the Fantastic Fan, the mattress, the marine CD player and speakers!

I intend on getting some more exterior paint done this week, as well as priming the interior. Then this weekend I'll be heading to a brand new JoAnn Fabrics in town that is having their grand opening. I have a handful of 50% off coupons and will be picking up enough marine vinyl to make two different color tops - one white, and one either dark brown or tan. Its really coming together fast!!

Re: The X-II - 02/09/2012 - More LED'S!!!

One of the things I hate about camping trips is showing up to the campsite after dark. Unfortunately it happens all too often. Its not so bad if you're at a campground, but if you're boondocking and need to thread the trailer between some trees it can be a bit of a PITA. Especially since my car has tinted windows. Even though they aren't tinted "limo" dark, it can still sometimes be difficult to see backing up. I've come up with a remedy for this build.

I picked up some cheap LED "fog lights" from the auto parts store. They'll be mounted in the rear of the trolley-top section, acting as reverse lights and toggled from the remote key fob.

Image

Checking out their intensity

Image

They'll either be mounted just as you see them in the picture below, or possibly attached to the underside of that last cross spar. The final mounting position will depend on the angle that I can get them aimed towards.

Image

As with all the other exterior trailer lights, these have clear lenses and chrome trim ring. I think they blend right in!

Looking good!

My .02, put the back-up lights high up under the spar, even if you have to make custom brackets to get them to aim the way you want. I don't think "The Look" will flow as well if you mount them low on the skin, as shown in the pic.

Your basement storage almost had me starting a second redesign on TPCE  :? , but I decided enough is enough and that I needed to get going with No. 1.

Keep it up, you are smokin'!!!

Zach,

I like your idea about back-up lights. I need to add some of those too for the late night camp site arrivals, and may borrow your idea.

Take care,
Tom

Z,
I've been following your build for weeks now and every day I hope to see the next new post from you. I'm getting ready to build my first and I know i can do it, but i'm afraid it will take me longer than it should.

Thanks for all the information you've posted because I've definitely learned and stored some of your info.

Thanks KC! Yeah I held the lights up underneath that spar, and they do look better up there. The angle of the spar may actually point the lights in just the right spot, but I need to get it out of the garage to aim them and be sure.

Thanks Tom! Sometimes I tend to go overboard with gadgets, but I think the reverse lights will come in pretty handy!

Thanks Angela! Some days my posts are pretty menial and don't have much info, but its still fun to document and share even a little bit of progress. Glad some of my posts can be useful to you!

Thanks Bob!

So yesterday was Valentines Day. Not really my day of the year.... I just don't buy into it. I feel that if you have someone special in your life, you should be showing your appreciation for them 365 days a year. Why is February 14 so special?? Because Hallmark said so. Maybe I'm cynical, maybe I'm not.

Anyway, I opted to spend my evening having dinner with my parents at their house, and then working on the trailer. What a nice night

I got the interior and the entire lower galley primed with Kilz Premium, and also got a final coat of white on the exterior "X"

The lower galley will get a coat of the almond color. I was going to paint the interior with the same almond colored Rustoleum paint, but its a gloss, and I'm not sure I want a glossy interior finish. I'm hoping to get the white "X" taped off and start painting the gray "X" tomorrow. Then the blue will follow.

I like the almond.

Have always preferred the off-whites.

BTW, I like the sharkboy mask, lol.

Where do you board?

LOL thanks... it was a gift from one of my hippie friends.

Usually hit up Ski Roundtop (near Harrisburg, PA) or Ski Liberty (near Gettysburg, PA).

Sadly I haven't been able to go in about 10 years.

I ended up with pneumonia back then and ever since I've had to deal with recurring bronchitis :(

I can't be outside in sub-freezing weather for much more than 15-20 minutes at a time. And even at that no more than a couple of times in a day or else I can't breath.

I really wanted to hit Blue Knob a couple of weekends ago when the temps were in the 40s but, unfortunately, I didn't have the time to go.

After all this time I'm not even sure I'd remember how.

I'd love to get to Wisp and check out that mountain coaster they have. That would be a blast in the winter!
